Hawaii! – Day Four

IMG_2602 Day 4 we woke up early to watch the sunrise. It started to rain but not hard enough to ruin the pictures. Then we left for our hike/bike/sail/snorkel adventure outing. The meeting place was a hotel in Waikiki, so we had a drive from the north end of the island which we planned for, but didn’t realize just how much TRAFFIC there would be in the morning. We missed our pickup time. Luckily, they came back for us after we called. Phew!

So we started by hiking through the rainforest up to what should have been a big waterfall, but the drought had dried it up to a trickle. Still very pretty. And we walked back out through a bamboo forest which was very surreal. Felt like I was in one of those Japanese fighting movies, I kept preparing for an unexpected attack.

Next up, we biked (downhill) from the rainforest down to almost desert climate. Hawaii has a wide range in such a small area. We stopped briefly for lunch with a great view down the valley towards Waikiki.

After biking, we went out on the water and tried snorkeling. Now I love the water. I love to swim. I thought I’d love snorkeling. No. Did Not Like. Something about the fact the mask closes off your nose to prevent you from using it instead of your mouth to breathe made me feel like I was suffocating once I went underwater. I gave up on the mask and snorkel and did fine holding my breath like normal. Tim did much better at the snorkeling and got to swim with some giant turtles.

Hawaii!! – Day Three

IMG_2438 Day 3, we started off by exploring the resort area. We stayed at the Turtle Bay Resort which was featured in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall”. We found the giant chess set they had on the beach, but it was actually in the tennis court area. Later we headed over to the Polynesian Cultural Center and spent the day learning about and being entertained by the various cultures of the area. We stayed for the evening dinner/luau and the evening show.

Hawaii!! – Day Two

IMG_2413 Day two of our trip we went to Diamond Head to hike up to the top. The hike was a little long, but completely worth it for the views.

Hawaii!! – Day One

IMG_2370 We went to Hawaii to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. It was the first time either of us had been to Hawaii and we both loved it. It is gorgeous out there. I want to go back again, and never come home…

These are first day pics, after the loooong flight, we just had enough energy to stop at the Dole Plantation on the way to our hotel on the north end of the island.

DisneyWorld / SeaWorld

IMG_2104 DisneyWorld and SeaWorld with family & friends. Kaycee and Chris also took me to Pleasure Island for a belated birthday celebration where I proceeded to completely make a fool of myself at the comedy club and everyone had fun laughing with (at?) me. Tim missed the fun unfortunately, he came down with Bronchitis and spent the first few days of vacation sick in bed. Luckily he recovered enough to enjoy the 2nd half of the week.

Disney likes to say vacations at their parks are magical, or something like that. Usually the lines would make me disagree to some degree. But, with Kaycee and her secrets to fast passes, baby swap (worth renting a baby if you don’t have one of your own), and alternate wheelchair entrances (not as easy to fake…), Disney was truly magical this time. And I think Kaycee has completely ruined me for future trips where I will have to wait in line with the other lowly commoners.
